Orientation Day 7
Today you'll learn why we work so closely with the Thieves Guild in our continuing history of the Guild. And you'll learn more about the Guild Bylaws.
Guild History
On 15 Emberwane 87, Finkin Havenbrace joined the Guild as a Level 1 Halfling. As many of you know, Finkin has shown an aptitude for detecting traps, and so he has begun training as a Rogue in our lab. As part of this training, he will be practicing with his lock picks, building his strength on the rock wall, and overcoming his fear of water by learning to swim in our aquatic training area. He is joined in this pilot program by one of our owners, halfling Darelle Cloudheart. The competition is fierce, and at the time of this writing, there is a betting pool going on as to which of these halflings can make it to an advanced level first. It’s early in the process, so there’s still time to place your bets!
On 20 Emberwave 87, a team consisting of Faelina Sablefoot (rogue), Mad Hamish (barbarian), Darelle Cloudheart (halfling), and Elowen Dawnbringer (cleric) traveled to Tezany Cove to do battle with the Avatar of the Shark God and retrieve a holy relic, a golden shark worth thousands of gold coins in reward. Eschewing the assistance of the port authority, they chose instead to work with the local Thieves Guild. Their mage was able to supply them with a spell that allowed them to work underwater as if they were on land breathing air for the full day. Although they the relic was lost to the depths in the end, they did defeat and kill the Avatar for which the Thieves Guild made them full members of their Guild. As such, they are able to call upon the assistance of that Guild no matter where they are on Darya. They were also paid a good reward by the port authority. When you complete your apprenticeship, you will learn more about our connection with the guild. In the meantime, you may find yourself working with them on small projects as part of your apprenticeship. Make as many connections there as you can.
At the same time as Faelina’s team was in Tezany Cove, we received a communication from Eldran Quist, the head of an archaeology team working at Thalorin Keep, 4 days out of Windgrest by horse. They were having the usual issue with bandits and goblin raiders, so we sent a team out as security for them. The team, under the direction of Atlene Swiftsword, found a dungeon beneath the keep that was crawling with undead. Unfortunately, the team had just one low level cleric. Boudiath, our druid, sent her familiar (an owl named Moonshadow) to the Guild with a message to dispatch another team specifically to target the undead. Elowen (cleric), Boenra (wizard), and Rubria Heartshine (a freelance cleric who had just joined the apprentice program that day) formed the dungeon team. They rode out to join Atlene, Prasha, Boudiath, and Selth at the dig site. Selth went with the clerics and wizard into the dungeon, where they spent 3 days clearing out all manner of undead monsters, including multiple boss monsters. They recovered a number of artifacts for Eldran as well.
The clerics shared that on the way to the Keep, they had gone around The Drowned Plains, a famously haunted area where Eradid Hexbane (necromancer) had his keep, Mirehold. Quist told them that to rid the area of the curse, they would need to defeat Hexbane and kill him in a ritual sacrifice. The team decided to send Prasha, Elowen, Boenra, and Rubria to Mirehold, while Atlene, Selth, and Boudiath stayed with Quist and his team. Atlene was concerned to send out a team with no fighters, but in the end, they were successful and the curse was lifted. They liberated several living slaves from the dungeon beneath Mirehold. There was also a glorious amount of treasure, and two interesting objects that you will hear more about in future trainings.

I hope by now you have identified your sponsor and are actively working toward completing your membership application, oral examination, and Council interview. We expect this process to take several months, so do not procrastinate! You’ll receive just one more training bulletin, and then you’ll have all the information you will be expected to know. I recommend that you find some time to talk to the owners and members you have not had a chance to get to know. You will find those relationships helpful during the Council interview.
